To (Zom)bie or not to bie? That is the---BRAAAAIIIIINS!

So here I am. Posting on Wednesday, as expected. Life is so predictable for Nicole Danser, isn't it? Or... is it? OR IS IT!?

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, SURPRISE PARTIES AND EXERCISE OUTDOORS?! WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THIS WEEK!? But first, boring things.

So on Thursday I went to my Russian and Soviet Film class, where I chose my paper topic for the final paper. It will be about Russian humor and understanding foreign comedies and satire as a foreigner. Then I did things, I'm sure of it. I believe I went to Commons with debaters, and then went to debate with debaters and then went to dinner with debaters ("Nicole, this all seems pretty predictable..." GOD DAMN, DOES NO ONE HAVE PATIENCE ANY MORE!?). After dinner, I went to the Radio/DJ club to sign up for the radio show Jack and I are hosting for 2 hours every week. We tried to get an afternoon time slot by naming our show "The Afternoon Show". Pretty clever, eh? Well, apparently not because our show is now at 8 am to 10 am on Thursday mornings. Now we just look silly... but on the bright side, no one will be listening when I accidentally drop an F bomb or make asocial comments. However, no one will hear the witty banter between Jack and I. There are times at dinner where all we do is fire puns back and forth at each other until we run out of on-topic puns. No, yeah, with actions like that, I expect you to hate me (But Taylor and Amy: YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to hate me. Yes, I am now inserting inside jokes into my posts. But to make people who are out of the loop feel better: They probably won't read my post anyways.).
After that I took a shower, got some of my favorite things together (e.g. my laptop, backpack, etc.) and headed to an academic building where I worked/played until 2 in the morning. Why? Click the link and find out. Anyways, during that time I chatted with my friends online, ate chocolate, listened to podcasts, trolled tumblr and wrote poetry. I then went home and slept.

On Friday I woke up late and got brunch (Which consisted of only grain and potato based foods. Hahahaha SCURVY IS FUN!) with my friends who said they were going on a walk to the local Bird Santuary, Thorncrag. I decided to go with them and I must say that those two hours of my life were cold, numb and wondrous. The forest was beautiful and Jack, Ben, and Owen were quite the company. After that, we trudged over to commons, ate massive amounts of mashed potatoes (do we see a theme here?) and then parted ways.

I'm not sure what the others did, but I went home and played my ukulele, napped, and then at 12:01 went into the common room so I wouldn't be alone on my birthday. I was greeted by an abundance of intoxicated friends and fellow students. I was bequeathed with many gifts such as nutella, thin mints, a flower hat and pink glasses. I also got lots of drunk love.

The common room was
 full of drunks
 coming back from a rave.

Really weird.

So the night got weird fast.
After some quality time with some quality friends, I decided to sleep for the night. It was weird, I went to sleep on my birthday and woke up but it was still my birthday! I spent the day just hanging out with some friends. I lazed around, playing Sims, doing crosswords, and just hanging out on my ultra-special-day-of-realizing-I-get-closer-to-death-every-second-that-I-live. Because what is life but a fatal disease?  Anyways, I then went to dinner with some friends at around 7:30. It was nothing extravagant, really. I have a pretty average meal that was sort of rushed. I was eating and my friends were like "Oh hey, it's already eight. You should get back to Rand," to which I responded (in my mind) "Jesus, controlling much?". So I parted ways and walked back to my dorm. And right when I got there I received a call from my friend Pernilla.

Pernilla: Hey, Nicole, where are you?
Nicole: Uh, I'm about to be at Rand.
Pernilla: Okay, can you come to my room? I just got a new dress and I want you to tell me how it looks. I know that's weird and nerdy, but yeah.
Nicole: Sure, no problem *SUSPICION*

So at this point in time, my amazingly egotistical side of my personality is battling my equally strong low-self-esteemed side of my personality. Ego-Nicole is like "All signs point to a surprise party. It's your birthday and people are being weird. It is thus logical to conclude that people are throwing you a party. Because you are the birthday girl." And low-self-esteem Nicole responds with "No one even likes you very much. You don't have that many close friends. No one has that much vested interest in your happiness. And people who are close to you are off campus, were just seen in Commons, or don't think you deserve a party anyways. No one is even escorting you to your dorm or anything. You could easily just not show up at your dorm and no one would notice." To which Ego-Nicole responds, "Who ARE you?"

Well, anyways, I got to Pernilla's room and there was, in fact, a surprise party for me. My debate friends and Rand friends made me cards, baked me cookies and  gave me candy. We played games that included a lot of exchanging clothing and just had a generally good time. I'm really thankful that my friends, especially Pernilla, love me enough to throw me a surprise party. After that, I took a shower and met my friends at Jillian's room to make 20 birthday videos for her boyfriend Russel (who has the same birthday as I do). That was exceptionally fun and hopefully the videos will never be released to the public. At this point, I was wiped out. I got back to my dorm, made a "Thanks for loving me" status update, messaged a few friends and then fell asleep.

On Sunday I woke up to a text from my friend asking me to bring him bagels. I obliged, because I've actually become more of an accommodating and favor-willing person at college (I'm guessing at this moment Mom is gasping in surprise and Dad is choking on his Jamba Juice). Accommodating Nicole, some ( i.e. Taylor) call me. I've even become a meme. Well, sort of. Well, I mean, Taylor made a meme of me but the definitions of a meme are

  1. An element of a culture or behavior that may be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, esp. imitation.o
  2. An image, video, etc. that is passed electronically from one Internet user to another.

which would lead me to believe that even though a captioned picture of me was made on a meme-generator site, it is technically not a meme. Semantics! So fun to read about, right? ("Fuck you, Nicole. My time is not this expendable. Get to more interesting things." Jesus, tough crowd.) Speaking of Jesus...
A segway. Get it? Like segue?

The school-wide game of Zombies vs. Humans is a game that has been happening this week. You may wonder what this has to do with Jesus. Well, readers, what would you call a man who dies and then is resurrected and becomes un-dead? (A miracle? No, it's a fucking WARNING. The resurrection of Christ is nothing but the Bible's foreshadowing of the imminent zombie apocalypse. Don't believe me? Then you don't believe THE WORDS OF GOD. Oh wow, that just got really aggressive. ) Aaaaanyways, the title of the game is pretty self-explanatory, but if you want to know more, you can read THIS.

Needless to saymy friends who are playing this game are constantly on edge and are acting quite crazy. Some have not gone back to their dorms and carry extra changes of clothing with them just in case they cannot return home. I decided that I should not feed my skittish, neurotic and nervous tendencies, so I am not partaking in this game. However, just because I have decided not to foster my own neurotic behavior doesn't mean I haven't been furthering other people's hysteria.(See photo on the right. Trololol, don't leave your laptop open when I'm around.) So this will be going on until Friday, I believe. Of the people I know, Barbara and Nick are still alive. Stay strong, my friends. Wow, I just got severely off-track.
SO, on Sunday I did a lot of Russian Film work, and studied until 2 am for my quiz the next day. I studied a lot of the wrong material for way more time than I should have, but I still got 100% on the 41 point quiz. So I am very much pleased.

On Monday, I took the quiz which I aced (see above. SEE IT!) and then spent some time with the debaters who are in my Russian and Soviet Films class. There are a lot of us. We are a cult, remember? Anyways, I then joined John and Amy while they watched "Game of Thrones" which was the first time I watched the show. They were watching season 5 or something, so I was a bit confused. But they were really nice about it and explained to me what was going on. I would not have been so kind. After that, I watched a Russian Movie ("Solaris") and then went to bed. But then I woke up at like 12:30 and couldn't get back to sleep for an hour. Ah well. If I remember correctly, this was the day that John fought off two zombies as he was about to enter Commons. It was a brilliant spectacle. However, he was devoured by zombies the next day. A few moments of silence for John.

...

On Tuesday I had my class AGAIN, and then went to Commons AGAIN, and then went to debate AGAIN. I then went to dinner AGAIN, where I changed from the Debater Table to the Jack and Company table a few times. The day before was when Jack and I had a pun-filled dinner (after I ate with the debaters for a few minutes. "GOD HOW AM I SO POPULAR?", says Ego-Nicole. "You spread yourself so thin, nobody knows who you actually are," says low-self-esteem-Nicole. Shit just got dark again. AAAANYWAYS). After dinner, I went home, played the ukulele, ate the rest of my thin-mints, made some tea that my mom sent to me (Thanks, mom!) and then went to sleep.

Today I went to class again, ate again, watched two Russian films and must still write an outline for my Russian paper. However, now I must go eat as it is getting late and soon the food will be put away. Which will not please me.

Your simultaneously-narcissistic-and-self-deprecating friend,

Nicole

Oh, and one last cool note that I didn't know where to put: Apparently I've been nominated for being the "best new language learner" at Bates. So that's pretty sweet. Go Chinese!

  1. Is "scandalous picture Nicole" here to stay? If so, I approve.

  2. How do you mean? Do you mean my tendency to have profile pictures that are a bit odd?

  3. I'm a little unsure of this character who keeps appearing in pictures of you. He has a girlfriend? Who is not you? If I was her I would be very perturbed.

Good post. Too bad you aren't playing the Zombie game. I just read the rules and it looks fun-but-scary. I get scared easily.

  4. Patrick does that to everyone. I'm sure their relationship is secure enough for him to hassle his friends and dance with them. If not, I can do nothing about it.
